Sovereign, holy, and very much in charge… more in charge than you and “your people”. God is Creator, gracious, and just, and Presbyterians are famous for emphasizing that God is God and you, delightfully, are not.

Fully God, fully human, no fractions. Christ is the center of everything, the one true mediator, crucified and risen. Presbyterians confess Him as Lord, which is a bigger deal than it sounds and comes with implications for your calendar, your wallet, and your ego.

God present and active right now, doing the quiet, powerful work of making faith possible, illuminating Scripture, and nudging the church along. The Spirit is the reason your heart occasionally does something your five-year plan didn't authorize.

Made in God's image (glorious!) and also thoroughly sinful (less glorious!). Presbyterians hold both at once: you are loved beyond measure and also genuinely a mess. Total depravity doesn't mean you're as bad as possible; it means sin touches every part of you, including the parts you're proud of.

It's the Word of God written, the "unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ." Presbyterians love the Bible deeply but don't worship it… that would be idolatry, and also awkward. We read it seriously, in context, using our brains (God gave those too), rather than treating it like a magic 8-ball you shake for answers.

All grace, start to finish. You don't earn it, upgrade it, or add loyalty points. God chooses, God saves, faith responds. Presbyterians take election seriously and mostly file the trickier logistics under "God's business, not mine."

The body of Christ, the covenant community… not a building or a group of people who have it all figured out. It's "reformed and always being reformed according to the Word of God," which is a fancy way of saying: never finished, always renovating.

Just two: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Visible signs of invisible grace. Baptism marks you into the covenant (babies welcome… it's about God's promise, not your résumé), and the Table feeds you with Christ's presence. Bread, cup, grace, repeat.

Ordered, reverent, God-centered, and (lovingly stereotyped as) punctual. Word and Sacrament are the main courses. It's less about how worship makes you feel and more about giving God the honor due… though feeling something is a welcome bonus. After all, God is present!

Vocation! Every honest job is holy, every day is God's, and gratitude turns into action: justice, mercy, stewardship, loving your neighbor even when your neighbor parks badly. Faith isn't a Sunday hobby; it's a whole reorientation to life.

Rule by elders (that's what "presbyter" means), gathered in councils, decisions made by groups rather than a lone hero or pastors. The ladder: Session (local church) → Presbytery (regional) → Synod (collection of regions) → General Assembly (national). It's representative democracy with committees, minutes, and Robert's Rules of Order. We believe God is a God of order, not confusion Paul basically says “knock it off, take turns, let things be done decently and in order” (read it for an actual translation - 1 Corinthian 14:40)
