August Notes from the Pastor

pastor notes augustJuly was a busy month with vacations (including my own) and other assorted summer activities.  As August begins, I’m looking forward to getting back into our regular church routine.  Beginning Wednesday, August 25th we will resume our Wednesday evening activities at the church.  Be on the lookout for announcements about times, evening Bible studies and other activities.

Speaking of studies, please keep all of our students, educators and administrative staff in your prayers as the school year returns this month.

I wanted to give some words of thanks to our Pastor Nominating Committee for their work during the summer months.  They have competed a major step in the pastor search process by finishing our Ministry Information Form, which is used to match our church with pastors seeking churches.

Ice Cream Sunday will continue on the final Sunday of each month as we fellowship and celebrate our birthdays and anniversaries each month.  Be sure to join us after church on these Sundays!

Looking ahead to September, we will resume our Sunday School classes so stay tuned for more information about that.

I’m having a great experience here at this church and I’m so thankful for each of you!

July Notes from the Pastor

pastor notes julyThanks to everyone who returned a Congregational Survey!  The survey results will be a big aid to the Pastor Nominating Committee as they march forward.  On Sunday, July 11th, the results of the Congregational Survey will be shared with the congregation.  More details about that will be announced.

I’m looking forward to getting away for a few days on a family trip.  We’re headed to the Lake Erie Islands from July 5-9, trying to find some cooler weather!  I will be here on the Sundays before and after my trip, but will be out of the office the week of July 5th.

Independence Day is on Sunday this year!  Whatever your holiday weekend plans are, find one hour to join us at 10:15.  Did you know that Thomas Jefferson wrote most of the Declaration of Independence on his “laptop”?  He used a small writing desk that fit on his lap!

After a bit of a hiatus, the Worship Time with Children has returned!  This is one of the most enjoyable (and unpredictable) parts of our worship service.

Everyone really enjoyed having Jackson Bower and Hudson Stahl play a cello/violin duet for us on June 13th.  They are very talented and both are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow, Kentucky.  One of the strengths of our denomination is our willingness to be “connectional”.

That’s all for this month!  Let me know if I can ever be of help to you!

Charlie

Preview and Invitation for June 13th

Here's my "Preview and Invitation" for worship this Sunday.  The message will be "Planning for a Better Tomorrow."  We'll also have special guest musicians.  We'd love to have you join us at 10:15.

June Notes from the Pastor

pastor notes juneIt’s a well deserved summer break for all of our students, educators and administrators of our schools.  It was a year of challenges for all of them and we pray for a joyous summer break for them all!

Thanks to everyone who contributed toward our Pentecost Special Offering on Sunday, May 23rd.  This special offering supports children-at-risk, young adults and youth.  40% of this offering remains with our congregation to develop and support programs for young people in our own church and community.

Please be in prayer for our Pastor Nominating Committee as they search for our next pastor.  We’ll all be in prayer for God’s guidance as they begin this process of discernment.  A big thanks also to our Nominating Committee for their work over the past year!
Our PNC Members are:
From the Session:  Pete Phelan, Shirley Michael, Rick Lee, and Mike Hofmann
At Large:  Suzanne Wilson, Anna Leasure, and Brianna Gregory

This year has really sped by so far.  I can’t believe that it is already June!  I’m looking forward to being with you each Sunday in June and worshipping God alongside you.  I have really enjoyed my time here and I thank you all for blessing me with this opportunity.

Congratulations to our NCAA Bracket Champion this year!  Jackson Bower has won my fellowship bracket contest in back-to-back years.

Preview and Invitation for May 23rd

Here's my "Preview and Invitation" for our worship service this Sunday.  It's Pentecost Sunday, so be sure to wear "Holy Spirit" red.  The message will be "A Spirit of Unity."  We're hoping it will be every bit as powerful as Peter's message on the first Pentecost, so we're looking for 3000 new members.

Preview and Invitation for May 16th

Here's my "Preview and Invitation" for our worship service this Sunday.  The message will be "Using Our Other Eyes."  We would love to have you join us for worship in the sanctuary at 10:15, but if you can't make it, you can catch the livestream or recorded video on the "newfpc" channel of YouTube or Twitch.

Preview and Invitation for May 9th

Here's my "Preview and Invitation" for our worship service this Sunday, Mother's Day.  We'll recognize our mothers and all those who have served as surrogate mothers for us.  The message will be "A Patient Teacher," the story of Philip and the Ethiopian.  We have certainly witnessed many "patient teachers" in our community over the past 15 months.  We hope you'll join us for worship at 10:15.
