GENERAL ASSEMBLY - DAY 7

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Proverb 8  (I’ve been selecting what seems to be a key verse or two from each Proverb, progressing with the day of the month.  Today’s Proverb is 8.  I tried to pick a single verse or two, but couldn’t.  The subject is wisdom calling out for a hearing.  I’d suggest you read the whole thing; it’s less than half a page…Just read it, okay?)

I was in the place that has become my 6:00AM reading site: in the Hyatt lobby, next to the Bell Captain’s booth.  As I was reading Proverb 8 this morning, I was thanking God that General Assembly was only every other year…but I was also thanking Him, literally for the wonderful way He has outlined the topic of wisdom for me these past several days.  I’ve certainly felt the need for wisdom, and Lord knows I’ve needed it laid out for me in an orderly fashion, even calling out to me.  It’s all been a big help.

Just as I was feeling like God and Jesus were both going to need my help with warding off all these Presbyterians today, an unknown person walked past me in the Hyatt lobby.  Apparently, she noticed the intensity on my brow and the earnestness of my praying…or maybe she just saw the two empty coffee cups next to my notebook.  The lady didn’t even slow down as she spoke, literally a word from God to me.  “Don’t ever forget 2nd Corinthians 4, especially the end of the chapter.”  If she had stopped and recited it, I wouldn’t have had to look it up.  But since I have looked it up, let me share it with you:“…as God’s grace brings more and more people to Christ, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.  That is why we never give up.  Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.  For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long.  Yet, they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever!  So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather we look forward to what we have not yet seen.  For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.”

Is that good or what?  Take heart, folks, and listen – always listen – for God.  He speaks…wisdom…even over a second cup of coffee in a hotel lobby.
