GENERAL ASSEMBLY - DAY 4
Monday, July 5, 2010
“My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel. Then you will learn to be discreet and will store up knowledge.” [Proverbs 5:1-2]
This was a killer of a day for a guy like me who needs to get up, move around, and go someplace as the day progresses. Our committee started its work at 9:00AM, stopped for lunch and dinner, and finally ended at 9:30PM. Tomorrow’s agenda will be similar – with one huge difference. There will be a worship service an hour before it all begins in the morning.
I don’t know if this is necessarily a Calvinist idea or not (and based on my voting experience here, I assume I’m at odds with many), but I think when you’re in a strange land it’s so much better to worship God together, not simply “doing a devotion” along with morning prayer and coffee. Something about the body of believers rising together to offer God what might be the only thing He doesn’t already have – our praise and worship.
The verse from Proverbs above speaks of paying attention to God’s wisdom, that His counsel will get you through. I’m praying for this tonight, even as I close my eyes at 12:52AM. “Lord, I’ve plugged in the chargers on my cell phone, razor, and laptop. Now, at the end of the day, Father, let this hotel pillow be the connection for my re-charging tonight. Fill me with your wisdom; let me listen mostly to you as I hear all the other voices, too. It’s been a long day, and it will be a short night – but tomorrow morning my devotion joins with others, and we will worship You." Hooray and Hooray! (I mean Amen and Amen.) |
